The port’s commercial zone<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The Saint-Denis-d’Ol\u00e9ron marina<\/a> offers much more than just pontoons<\/a> and nautical services<\/a>. Since 2006, a lively shopping area<\/strong> has lined the quays, offering boaters, strollers and holidaymakers a wide choice of shops<\/strong>, restaurants<\/a> and local services<\/strong>. Open to the sea and extended by a pedestrian promenade along the quayside<\/strong>, the commercial area of the port of Saint-Denis-d’Ol\u00e9ron is an essential part of life, both in and out of season. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

History of the commercial zone<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The history of the commercial zone is inseparable from that of the port itself. The Saint-Denis-d’Ol\u00e9ron marina is the fruit of a long battle against coastal silting<\/strong>, won after centuries of effort and failure. The first jetty may date back to the XII\u1d49 century<\/strong>, facilitating the transport of wine from Chassiron to La Rochelle. By the XVII\u1d49 century, documents already mention a tax earmarked for harbor repairs. Two centuries of dikes and jetties constantly destroyed by sand followed, until the project was abandoned in the early XIX\u1d49 century. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was thetourist boom<\/strong> that rekindled the port’s ambitions: better studied and better financed, the new port was inaugurated in 1989<\/strong>. Then, in 2006<\/strong>, a shopping area was added to the Blue Flag-labeled<\/strong> infrastructure: bistros, restaurants, ice-cream parlors, chandlery, souvenirs, local products, bicycle rentals… The pedestrian promenade along the quay<\/strong> now offers an exceptional setting for yachtsmen and visitors alike. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n
