Your stopover in the port of Saint-Denis-d’Oléron

Prepare for your stopover at the Saint-Denis-d’Oléron marina, located at the northern tip of the island of Oléron. The port of Saint-Denis-d’Oléron welcomes you to a basin well protected from prevailing winds (south-west to north-west), with a visitor pontoon (pontoon A) reserved for stopovers and mooring assistance available. Access is via a buoyed channel, which requires special attention to tide conditions. On this page, you’ll find all the information you need to prepare your arrival, complete your formalities and organize your departure in complete peace of mind.
Before setting sail, contact the harbor master’s office on VHF channel 9 or 05 46 47 97 97. Visitor pontoon A is reserved for you as a stopover, with mooring assistance available.

Good deal: for a stay of 3 consecutive nights, the 3ᵉ night is free! (Except in July and August.)

Preparing your stopover: formalities and access

Your arrival

Please notify the harbour master’s office by telephone or e-mail before you arrive, so that we can organize your reception.

To access the port of Saint-Denis-d’Oléron, the natural threshold of the channel is 1.50 m. Before entering the channel, please observe the following points:

  • Calculate your passage time according to your boat’s draught
  • Add a pilot leg of at least 0.50 m (safety margin)
  • Consult the tide times and heights
  • Make sure there’s enough water available: weir + draft + pilot foot
  • Contact the harbour master’s office on VHF channel 9 before committing yourself.

Once your boat is moored, go to the harbour master’s office to complete the formalities:

  • Check-in for your stopover
  • Payment
  • Access to port services and sanitary facilities (showers, WCs, Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, etc.).

The harbor master’s office team is on hand to guide and inform you about all the port services, shops and partner activities accessible from the port.

Amer: 2 miles south-southeast of Antioche turret, bell tower of Saint-Denis-d’Oléron church

Day approach: fairway buoys

Daytime access: aligned at 260°, bell tower by starboard boom (starboard side beacon), overhang the starboard jib by 40 m.

Entrance lights: guide light (46°01′.6N – 001°21′.9W) 0.6 mile SSE of harbour entrance

Prevailing winds: SW to NW

Access conditions – Natural channel sill: access to the port of Saint-Denis-d’Oléron is subject to a natural sill located 1.50 m from chart datum; at mid-tide, the height of water over the sill reaches around 1.90 m. This threshold requires you to calculate your passage slot before entering or leaving the port.
