The Saint-Denis-d’Oléron marina places the protection of the maritime environment at the heart of its operations. Located at the northern tip of the island of Oléron, in a remarkable ecosystem bordered by the Gironde Estuary and Pertuis Sea Marine Park, the port of Saint-Denis-d’Oléron is committed to reconciling port activity with respect for the marine environment. This approach is reflected in our demanding labels, solid partnerships with associations and concrete actions in favor of sustainable, responsible yachting.

Environmental approach
The port’s environmental approach is based on a strong conviction: yachting and the preservation of the oceans are compatible, provided that everyone gets involved. The port relies on a network of committed partners to raise awareness of good environmental practices among yachtsmen, residents and visitors. Priorities include wastewater management, waste sorting, reducing pollution from careening and promoting eco-responsible products (available from the port store). The aim is clear: to preserve the quality of the water in the harbour basin and along the Oleron coastline for present and future generations.

- Blue Flag
The port of Saint-Denis-d’Oléron has held the Blue Flag label since 2007. A guarantee of high environmental quality, the Blue Flag also promotes a general awareness of how to behave in a way that is more respectful of nature and its riches. This European label certifies compliance with strict criteria in terms of water management,environmental education, waste management and safety.

- “I sail, I sort” – Gestes Propres
The port is taking part in the national “Je navigue, je trie” (I sail, I sort) operation , run by the Gestes Propres association. Its principle: “Nothing overboard, all my waste in port! Every summer, a concrete system is put in place to encourage sorting on board: reusable tote bags dedicated to recyclable packaging, self-service bin-bag dispensers at the harbor master’s office and dedicated signage. The aim is to make every yachtsman aware of the need to prevent marine waste and promote recycling.

A stopover, a commitment
- Towards responsible boating – ECHO-MER
The port is part of the EchoGestes program run by the ECHO-MER association, a member of the EcoNav network. This environmental association is committed to limiting the impact of man-made pollution on nature, particularly in the maritime environment. Awareness-raising campaigns are regularly organized for port users.

- IODDE – Ile d’Oléron sustainable development environment
The IODDE association, which has been awarded the CPIE Marennes-Oléron label, supports the region in its sustainable development initiatives. It works with the port on issues such as preserving coastal biodiversity and raising public awareness of the island’s environment.


The Marine Nature Park
The port of Saint-Denis-d’Oléron is located within the Gironde Estuary and Pertuis Sea Marine Park, a 6,500 km² marine protected area. This proximity reinforces the port’s environmental credentials and its responsibility to preserve this remarkable natural area.

Waste management – Zero waste territory
The port has dedicated infrastructures for waste treatment and sorting:
- Household waste containers on the port
- Mini waste collection center in the north parking lot (batteries, hydrocarbons, oils, absorbents, filters, batteries, anodes, etc.).
- Battery and bottle-cap recycling at the harbour master’s office
- Composter
- 2 premises for storing and sorting household waste
The waste reception and treatment plan, which complies with European regulations, is currently being finalized. The port is a full member of the Territoire Zéro Déchet (Zero Waste Territory ) initiative led by the Communauté de communes de l’île d’Oléron.
